My 15 minutes of fame

I was interviewed last week by the BBC about how I retrained and started a new career as a copywriter during the pandemic.

It's not something I expected I'd do when I went on maternity leave from my job as a town planner; a career I'd spent six years training for and one I'd enjoyed in many ways.

But when big life events happen (such as - oh I don't know - a year of looking after two small children followed immediately by a global pandemic and nationwide shutdown) I gained a new perspective.

It seems I was not the only one.

The BBC article investigated why there are so few job applicants for vacancies at the moment. Where are all the workers? One explanation could be that the number of people setting up new businesses has rocketed.

For me, switching from planning to copywriting meant being able to work entirely flexibly and focus exactly on my strengths - making it more manageable to juggle with busy family life.

When I stepped back from a career I loved in many ways, I didn't honestly know what my next step would be. Turns out I was stepping into a career I also love - and excel in.

Happily, I still get to write for the sector I know so well because part of my working week is with the Luma Marketing gang.

Truly, I never would have believed you if you'd have told me a year ago that this is where I would be.

Ain't life funny sometimes!
